eusociality A social structure in which only one female produces offspring, all other individuals attending to her needs, caring for the young, and performing other tasks necessary to the provisioning, defence, and welfare of the community. Eusociality occurs in many members of the
Hymenoptera and is known in one mammal species, the naked mole rat (
Heterocephalus glaber.
