Elapidae) which are characterized by bright coloration, generally in bands running around the body. They occur in the New World, but the name is sometimes applied to African and Asian forms of similar appearance. The warning coloration of the American genus
Micrurus is mimicked by a harmless pipe snake
Anilius scytale (
Aniliidae), and some
Lampropeltis species, including the milk snake (
L. triangulum sinaloae), Californian kingsnake (
L. getulus), and Californian mountain kingsnake (
L. zonata).
