clone

clone A group of genetically identical cells or individuals, derived from a common ancestor by asexual mitotic division (see MITOSIS). If a section of DNA is engulfed into the chromosome of a bacterium, phage, or plasmid vector and is replicated to form many copies, each copy is referred to as a DNA clone.
