Yurka Blanche [ Blanche Jurka] (1893–1974), American actress, who made her first appearance in New York in 1907 and was later with stock companies in Buffalo, Dallas, and Philadelphia. She already had many leading parts to her credit when in 1922 she played Gertrude to the Hamlet of John Barrymore. She later played roles in several plays by Ibsen, in which she was outstanding: Gina in The Wild Duck (1928), Hedda in Hedda Gabler, Ellida in The Lady from the Sea (both 1929), and Hiordis in The Vikings (1930). She was also much admired as Aristophanes' Lysistrata later in 1930 and as Sophocles' Electra in 1932. From 1936 to 1938 she toured the USA in a solo programme of scenes from great plays. She made her only appearance in London in 1969 in Giraudoux's The Madwoman of Chaillot, and was part-author of Spring in Autumn (1933), adapted from a play by Martínez Sierra.
