Terry, Fred (1864–1932), English actor, the youngest child of Benjamin Terry. He made his first appearance on the stage at the Haymarket Theatre under the Bancrofts, and four years later, at the Lyceum, played Sebastian in Twelfth Night to the Viola of his elder sister Ellen (above). A handsome, romantic actor, he became best known for his performance as Sir Percy Blakeney in Baroness Orczy's The Scarlet Pimpernel, which he produced under his own management in 1905 and frequently revived in London and on tour. He was also much admired as Charles II in Sweet Nell of Old Drury (1900) and as Sir John Manners in Dorothy o' the Hall (1906), both by Paul Kester, and in the title-roles of Matt o' Merrymount (1908), by Beulah Dix and Mrs Sutherland, and Henry of Navarre (1909), by William Devereux. In these and many other productions he was partnered by his wife Julia Neilson until his retirement in 1929. His son Dennis (1895–1932) and daughter Phyllis Neilson-Terry (1892–1977) were both on the stage.
