Miller, Henry (1860–1926), British-born American actor and manager, who made his début in Toronto in 1878, and then went to the United States, where after touring with many leading actresses of the time and with Boucicault he became leading man of the Empire Theatre stock company in New York. In 1899 he appeared as Sydney Carton in The Only Way, an adaptation of Dickens's A Tale of Two Cities which had a long run, and in 1906 he went into management, producing and playing in William Vaughn Moody's The Great Divide, in which he was also seen in London the same year. In 1916 he opened Henry Miller's Theatre in New York. He died during rehearsals for Dodd's A Stranger in the House. He married the daughter of the actress Matilda Heron, and their son Gilbert Heron Miller (1884–1969) was also a theatre manager in London and New York, fostering the exchange of new plays across the Atlantic. From 1918 until its demolition in 1958 he was lessee of the St James's Theatre in London.
