Irving, Henry Brodribb

Irving, Henry Brodribb (1870–1919), English actor-manager, elder son of Henry Irving. He made his first appearance in 1891 with John Hare at the Garrick Theatre as Lord Beaufoy in Robertson's School. He was for a time with Ben Greet, and later with George Alexander, and in 1902 created the title-role of Barrie's The Admirable Crichton. In 1906 he formed his own company with which he toured England and America, reviving many of his father's famous parts, and he later managed both the Queen's and the Savoy theatres. He married in 1896 the actress Dorothea Baird (1875–1933), who a year previously had created the title-role in Du Maurier's Trilby.
