International Theatre Institute (ITI). Founded as a branch of Unesco in Prague in 1948, the ITI exists to promote international co-operation and exchange of ideas among all workers in the theatre. It works through national centres, with headquarters in Paris, and publishes a quarterly illustrated journal in French and English,
International Theatre Information. A world congress is held every two years, together with conferences and colloquia on such questions as the training of the actor and theatre architecture. The British Centre, one of the first to be opened, helps those who come from abroad to study the theatre in Britain and also serves as a central information bureau, particularly about the theatre abroad. The other centres, including the American Centre, now an independent body, cover much the same ground. A number of international organizations connected with the theatre are affiliated to the ITI.
