Gros-Guillaume

Gros-Guillaume [ Robert Guérin] (fl. 1598–1634), French actor, who under the name of La Fleur played serious parts in tragedy, but is best remembered as a farce-player, with Turlupin and Gaultier-Garguille, in the permanent company at the Hôtel de Bourgogne. He probably played at the Paris fairs originally, as he was already known as an actor by 1630. A fat man, with black eyes and a very mobile face (which he covered with flour for comic parts, thus giving rise to the tradition that he was a baker before going on the stage), he figures as himself with his companions in Gougenot's La Comédie des comédiens (1631). His wife and daughter were both actresses, the latter marrying an actor, François Juvenon (c.1623–74), who took his father-in-law's stage name and as La Fleur played kings in tragedy in succession to Montfleury, and Gascons or the ranting Capitano in comedy.
