Fiorillo, Silvio

Fiorillo, Silvio (?–c.1633), actor of the commedia dell'arte, the original Capitano Matamoros and probably the first Pulcinella. He had a company of his own in Naples, his birthplace, in the last years of the 16th century, and later appeared with other companies, notably the Accesi on their visits to France in 1621 and 1632. He was the author of several plays and of scenarios in the commedia dell'arte tradition. His son Battista (fl. 1614–51) was married to the actress Beatrice Vitelli (fl. 1638–54), and is known to have played Scaramuccia. Silvio may also have been the father of Tiberio, below.
