Denison, (John) Michael Terence Wellesley

Denison, (John) Michael Terence Wellesley (1915– ), English actor, who made his first appearance on the stage in Brandon
Thomas's Charley's Aunt in 1938 and his London début in
Troilus and Cressida later the same year. In 1939 he married
Dulcie Gray (1919– ), who made her London début at the
Open Air Theatre in 1942. They appeared together for the first time in Peter Watling's
Rain on the Just (1948), and then in several other plays including Jan de Hartog's
The Fourposter (1950), Dulcie Gray's own play
Love Affair (1955), which Denison directed, and revivals of
Lonsdale's Let Them Eat Cake (1959) and Shaw's
Candida (1960) and
Heartbreak House (1961). After touring in a joint Shakespeare recital they co-starred again in revivals of
Wilde's An Ideal Husband (1965), Lonsdale's
On Approval (1966),
Ibsen's The Wild Duck (1970), and Sheridan's.
The School for Scandal (1983). Denison was also in other productions, including
The Black Mikado (1975), as Pooh-Bah, and Shaw's
The Apple Cart (1986) and
You Never Can Tell (1987).
