Shchedrin, Rodion (Konstantinovich) (b Moscow, 1932). Russ. composer. Taught comp. Moscow Cons. 1964–9. Specialist in Russian folk mus. of the various regions. Some of his later works use Western avant-garde processes formerly frowned upon in Soviet Union.
