Halka is regarded as first Polish nat. opera (2-act version 1846–7, rev. in 4 acts 1857 and prod. Warsaw 1858). Wrote other operas, none as successful, incl.
Straszny Dwór (The Haunted Manor) 1861–4. Composed sym.-poem
Bajka (Fairy Tale), 7 masses, a
Requiem (1890), and over 300 songs.
