Lyapunov, Sergey (Mikhaylovich) (b Yaroslavl, 1859; d Paris, 1924). Russ. composer. Ass. dir. Imperial choir, St Petersburg, 1884–1902. Worked with Lyadov and Balakirev on folk-song research. Prof., St Petersburg Cons. 1910–18. Ed. correspondence between Balakirev and Tchaikovsky. Works incl. 2 syms., 2 pf. concs., Variations on Ukrainian Themes, pf., orch., vn. conc., many songs, and pf. pieces.
