Firsova, Elena

Firsova, Elena (b Leningrad, 1950). Russ. composer. Strongly influenced by Edison Denisov. Her mus. is melodic and introspective, concentrating on vocal settings and chamber ensembles. She has made several settings of the poet Osip Mandelstam. Settled in Eng. 1991. Taught at Dartington 1992. Prof. and comp.-in-res. Keele Univ. from 1993.
