East, Michael

East, Michael [ Michael Easte, Michael Est, Michael Este] (b c.1580; d Lichfield, 1648). Eng. composer and organist. Choirmaster, Lichfield Cath. Wrote madrigals, anthems, and mus. for viols. His 5-part madrigal Hence Stars is in The Triumphs of Oriana. Also wrote madrigal called O metaphysical tobacco (1606).
