Dupré, Marcel (b Rouen, 1886; d Meudon, nr. Paris, 1971). Fr. organist and composer. Prix de Rome 1914. Org., St Vivien, Rouen, at age 12. Ass. org. to Widor at St Sulpice, Paris, from 1906; succeeded him 1934. Played all J. S. Bach's org. works at Paris Cons. 1920, first time such a perf. had been given. London début 1920, NY 1921. Noteworthy improviser. Prof. of org., Paris Cons. 1926–54. Ed. org. works of Bach, Handel, Schumann, Liszt, Franck, etc. Comp. sym., vn. sonata, cantatas, and many org. works incl. 2 org. syms., org. conc., Poèmes symphoniques, and Poèmes héroïques (1937), org., brass, perc.
