Blyth, Alan (b London, 1929). Eng. critic, broadcaster, and author. Contributor to The Times 1963–77, Musical Times, Opera (ass. ed. 1967–84), esp. on operatic subjects. Member of mus. staff of Daily Telegraph 1977–94. Author of monographs on Colin Davis (1969) and Janet Baker (1972). Ed. Opera on Record 1, 2, and 3 (1979, 1983, 1984); Remembering Britten (1981); Song on Record 1 and 2 (1986, 1988); Choral Music on Record (1991); Opera on CD (1992); Opera on Video (1995).
