Austin, Frederic (b London, 1872; d London, 1952). Eng. baritone and composer. Opera début CG 1908 as Gunther in The Ring under Richter. Prin. bar., Beecham Opera. Sang Peachum in his own highly successful version of The Beggar's Opera, 1920. Art dir., BNOC, 1924–9. Comp. sym., sym.-poem, choral works.
