s'thich [ScG, fairy, elf]. Wantonly mischievous sprite of Highland folklore, especially intrusive on women in birth pains and a thief of newborn infants. One of the most common figures in early Highland lore, the s'thich was denounced by a 17th-century clergyman of the Kirk for its peculiar, flint-like deadly weapons.
