Írusán

Írusán. Huge cat, as large as an ox, known as the King of the Cats, widely known in Irish written and oral tradition. According to a well-known story, when Senchán Torpéist, chief poet of Ireland, dared to satirize cats, Írusán came out of his cave at Knowth to carry the poet away on his back; when they passed Clonmacnoise St Ciarán saved the poet by throwing a red-hot poker at Írusán and killing him.
