Sláine
1. Sláinge, Slangia [Ir. sláine]. Son of Partholón in the pseudo-history Lebor Gabála [Book of Invasions] and the first physician in Ireland. In the Partholonian division of Ireland he takes Leinster. See also SLÁINGE.

2. Leader of the Galióin, a part of the Fir Bolg, in the pseudo-history Lebor Gabála [Book of Invasions], who divides Ireland with his brothers, taking Leinster for himself. In the Fir Bolg invasion he was thought to have come ashore at Inber Sláine, now the mouth of the Slaney River at Wexford Harbour. Sláine is usually thought to have been buried at the fortress of Dind Ríg, Co. Carlow, which was once called Duma Sláine [Sláine's mound], but the Dindshenchas records that he is buried at Slane, Co. Meath.
