Banba, an incarnation of
Ireland, in this same place. Here also is
Cahirconree, archaeological site thought to be the fortress of the hero
Cú Roí, many of whose adventures take place nearby; it is here that
Bé Chuma finds the wand of Cú Roí. In oral tradition the mountains are haunted by a man with a menacing black
dog.
2. Slemish Mountain. Peak (1,437 feet) in Co. Antrim, 4 miles SE of Broughshane, where, according to tradition, St
Patrick while a young captive tended sheep and swine.
