Sencha mac Ailella

Sencha mac Ailella, Aillelea, Ailill [cf. Ir. senchaid, custodian of tradition; historian]. Peacemaker among the Ulster warriors, an Irish counterpart of Nestor in the Iliad and possibly also of Merlin in the Arthurian legends. Also chief judge and poet during the reign of Conchobar mac Nessa. He offered to foster Cúchulainn but was only his teacher of eloquence.
