Gwawl ap Clud

Gwawl ap Clud [W, light (?); wall (?); hedge (?)]. Rival suitor to Pwyll for Rhiannon, and son of the goddess Clud in the first branch of the Mabinogi. Although he appears almost feeble-witted, he is nearly successful. Pwyll wreaks vengeance in the game of badger-in-the-bag, killing Gwawl. Later, Llwyd the enchanter retaliates on Gwawl's behalf. Probably a native of Clydeside.
