Fuinche, Faince, Fuince [cf. Ir. fuinche, claw, talon; fuinche, scald-crow, black fox]. Name borne by many female personages in early Ireland, historical and legendary, including fourteen saints, but most notably by the divine daughter of Dáire Derg and mother of the three Fothads by a warrior named Mac Nia. She was said to have three breasts, like the legendary saints Fainche Tré-Chíchech and Ardmáer Tréchíchech or the Welsh saint Gwenn Teirbronn. In lesser-known variant texts she is cited as the mother of Fionn mac Cumhaill.
