Borvo, Bormanus, Bormo [L, to boil, seethe, bubble]. Gaulish god of healing springs. At Vichy, France, he was portrayed equipped with a warrior's shield and helmet; the figure is seen seated, with a horned serpent rearing up towards him. His usual consort is
Damona, but when he is known as Bormanus his consort is Bormana. He was worshipped with Damona in a healing shrine at Bourbonne-les-Bains, France. His mother may have been
Sirona or
Dirona. The Romans equated Borvo with
Apollo. See also
BELENUS, who also has the power to heal with spring waters.
