1. Bolga, Bulga [Ir., lightning (?)]. Name borne by several shadowy figures in early Irish mythology and history of whom the most important appears to be the ancestor deity of both the Corcu Loígde, a people of south-west Munster, and the Fir Bolg of the pseudo-history Lebor Gabála [Book of Invasions]. His name appears to record a movement of the Belgae into Ireland. He was credited with the invention of the spear, in Old Irish bolga, bulga. He may have been a father of Dáire mac Dedad, or Dáire may only have been one of his disguises. Bolg was also known as Ailill Érann.
