Allantide [MidE Alhalwyn-tyd, All-Hallow's Tide; cf. Corn. aval, apple]. Name in Cornwall for Halloween, counterpart of Hollantide in Wales or Irish Samain, which Cornish oral tradition steadfastly insists is (1) the apple time, and (2) a feast sacred to an obscure 6th-century Cornish or Breton saint, Arlan, Elwin, or Allen.
