Ailbe Grúadbrecc [Ir., Ailbe of the freckled cheeks]. Daughter of Cormac mac Airt and sister of Gráinne. After Gráinne's infidelity to Fionn mac Cumhaill and subsequent disgrace, the Fenian leader wooed Ailbe and asked her a series of riddles; he asked her to live in the forest with him and be his wife. According to the testimony of Caílte, Ailbe was one of the four best lovers among the women of Ireland of his time. Her story is found in the Tochmarc Ailbe, trans. Whitley Stokes, in J. F. Campbell, Leabhar na Feinne (London, 1872), 151ff.
