Pterocarya (wing nuts; family Juglandaceae) A genus of deciduous trees that have large, pinnate leaves. The twigs have septate pith and buds are usually naked. The flowers are in unisexual catkins. The fruit is a nut with 2 leafy wings. The trees yield useful timber. There are 6 species, occurring from the Caucasus to Japan.
