Phellinus (family Hymenochaetaceae) A genus of fungi in which the fruit bodies are typically bracket-like or hoof-shaped, hard and leathery or woody in texture, with rust-brown ‘flesh’ and a layer of tubes on the underside. The spores are smooth. They are found on wood; some species are parasitic on trees (e.g. P. ignarius is parasitic on deciduous trees, especially willow, causing a white rot).
