Origanum (family Labiatae) A genus of dwarf shrubs of herbs that produce essential oils. Some are cultivated as pot-herbs (e.g. O. onites, pot marjoram; O. majorana, sweet marjoram; and O vulgare, oregano). There are 36 species, occurring in Eurasia.
