Libocedrus

Libocedrus (incense cedars; family Cupressaceae, *tribe Cupressinae) A genus of trees that have leafy branches compressed on 2 sides and bearing scale-like leaves in opposite pairs. The cones are oblong with elongate valvate scales, of which only 1 pair is fertile; the seeds are unringed. The leaves, rich in resin, smell of turpentine when crushed. There are 8 species occurring around the Pacific: in N. and S. America, eastern Asia, and New Zealand.
