Indigofera (family Leguminosae, subfamily Papilionatae) A genus of small, shrubby or herbaceous legumes that are adapted to dry conditions and have small, xeromorphic leaves. The seeds are dispersed in an explosive manner. The dye indigo can be extracted from the plants. There are about 700 species, and the genus is represented in all arid zones of the world.
