Hydnum (family Hydnaceae) A genus of fungi, in which the fruit bodies are fleshy and stipitate and the hymenium is borne on spines which hang down from the underside of the cap. The spore print is white. Species grow exclusively on the ground, typically in woodland. H. repandum (hedgehog fungus) is cream-coloured with a thick, eccentric stipe; it is edible and is commonly sold in markets in Europe.
