Gasteromycetes

Gasteromycetes (subdivision Basidiomycotina) A class of fungi that form epigean or hypogean basidiocarps which undergo angiocarpic (see ANGIOCARPY) development; the basidia are not septate and basidiospores are not forcibly discharged from the basidia. Most members are saprotrophic; some form mycorrhizal associations.
