Chamaecyparis (family Cupressaceae) A genus of coniferous trees with adpressed, scale-like leaves in opposite pairs, foliage in flattened, dorsiventral sprays, and small cones. They are much cultivated and hybridized as ornamental trees and hedging shrubs. There are 7 species, which occur in N. America, Japan, and Taiwan.
