global satellite positioning system(s) any one of several systems for finding an exact location on the Earth's surface through the use of radio/radar signals and satellites in the Earth's orbit. Such systems came into general use in the 1970s, are now extremely accurate, and have significant military applications (for targeting, tracking, and position reporting and the like).
