death march any forced march under conditions likely to result in the death of some of the participants, especially a march of prisoners of war, and most particularly the 65-mile forced march from Mariveles to San Fernando made by the some 78,000 U.S. and Filipino troops who surrendered to the Japanese on Bataan Peninsula in April 1942 (the Bataan Death March).
