Vietnamization program U.S. policy developed during the Nixon administration after the United States election of 1968 which encompassed the withdrawal of United States troops from South Vietnam and the “turning over” of the war against the Communist insurgents and North Vietnamese forces in South Vietnam to the government of the Republic of (South) Vietnam and its armed forces.
