Utah Militia the militia forces of the Mormon-led government in the Utah Territory. On September 15, 1857, the Mormon leader Brigham Young mobilized the Utah militia to resist United States troops under
Albert Sidney Johnston sent to quell Mormon opposition to the Federal government. The resulting
Mormon War was ended in June 1858 without significant bloodshed when Young permitted Johnston's forces to march through Salt Lake City and encamp nearby.
