Utah Beach

Utah Beach one of the five beaches targeted for landing in the D-Day operation and one of the two under U.S. control. It was the westernmost beach, on the eastern shore of the base of the Cotentin Peninsula. It was added late in the planning for Normandy, with the mission of capturing Cherbourg. The landing was off-target by more than a mile, which proved to be fortunate because it allowed the men to go ashore in a less defended area. See also Omaha Beach.
