Red River Campaign an unsuccessful
Civil War campaign from March to May of 1864 in which the Union attempted to secure the area along the Red River to Shreveport, the temporary Confederate capital. Confederate forces under the command of Gen.
Richard Taylor forced the Union to retreat and probably delayed the Union victory in the war by several months.
