Osprey V-22 an assault transport helicopter being developed for the U.S. Marine Corps. Intended to replace the Boeing Vertol CH-46 and the Sikorsky CH-53, the Osprey is a tilt-rotor hybrid rotary/fixed-wing transport. The most significant difference between the Osprey and other transport helicopters is its propulsion/vertical lift system, with a single large proprotor and its engine positioned at each wing tip. These proprotors, along with their engines and nacelles, can be operated in the vertical position, in which they provide direct lift, and the horizontal position, in which they provide direct thrust.
