Nez Percé a North American Indian tribe of Shahaptian located in Idaho, Oregon, and Washington. In 1877, the Nez Percé, led by the great
Chief Joseph, engaged the U.S. Army in a series of running battles as they sought refuge in Canada. At last forced to surrender at Bear Paw Mountain, the Nez Percé were confined in the
Indian Territory (Oklahoma) until 1885 when they were allowed to go to a reservation in Washington.
