Nelson, Viscount Horatio (1758–1805) foremost British admiral throughout the French Revolutionary War and in the early stages of the Napoleonic War. Among many illustrious victories, he commanded the battle that virtually annihilated the combined French and Spanish fleet off Cape Trafalgar in a single day's fighting in 1805. He lost his right arm and vision in his right eye in the line of duty. He is buried in St. Paul's cathedral and a statue of him sits atop Nelson's Column in Trafalgar Square, London.
