Monterrey, Battle of an American victory in the Mexican War (1846–48), led by Gen. Zachary Taylor and Gen. William J. Worth, on September 21–22, 1846. While Worth seized Federation and Independence Hills, Taylor led his troops into the heart of the city, eventually forcing the surrender of Gen. Pedro de Ampudia's forces after an engagement that claimed more American than Mexican casualties.
