Johnston, Peter (1763–1831) Revolutionary war officer, born at Osborne's Landing on the James River, Virginia. Johnston was recognized for great courage in battle while serving with the cavalry legion of
Henry “Light-Horse Harry” Lee, distinguishing himself at several battles, including that at
Guilford Court House (1781). He later served as captain of the Light Corps established by Gen.
Nathanael Greene.
He was the father of
Joseph Eggleston Johnston, a leading general in the Confederate army.
