Inactive National Guard ING U.S. Army National Guard personnel in an inactive status, not in the Selected Reserve, who are attached to a specific National Guard unit but do not participate in training activities.

In order for these personnel to remain members of the Inactive National Guard, they must muster once a year with their assigned unit. Like the Individual Ready Reserve, all members of the Inactive National Guard have legal, contractual obligations. Members of the Inactive National Guard may not train for retirement credit or pay and are not eligible for promotion.
